Crowne Plaza JFK Airport (New York City, USA)

5 Case Rating
Location Hotel is located about 5 minutes drive from JFK airport. They have shuttle buses that go every 15-30 minutes depending on time of day. Manhattan, say Mid town is an hour by car or same via the E train from Jamaica, you can pick this up at Federal circle since hotel offer shuttle buses to pick you up from there. The area itself is next to the perimeter of JFK with other hotels nearby in a residential neighbourhood of Jamaica nearby with not much to walk to. However the view is very good of the airport if you like watching planes fly past. Room The room was a large suite. You enter into a large living room where there is a 3 seater nice wide leather sofa, kitchen area with an expresso machine with star bucks pods, microwave and tableware. There is a large nice living room table for 4. This is next to a large TV on the wall and there is also a walk in closet offering an ironing board and large laptop size safe. The bedroom was large and spacious with nice colourful decor and a very comfortable large king size bed. Lamps and bedside tables either side with phone and alarm clock. Lighting options are good and plug access is plentiful with US plugs built into the lamps. There is a desk and mini fridge plus filter coffee making facility. Large TV above with full US cable channels. Digital AC worked well. The bathroom was spacious with a large shower cubicle, though the fixed shower function hot water seemed to take longer than normal to heat up. Towels are nice and thick, Temple spa branded mini amenities are offered and they include everything but no toothbrush. However the sleep therapy kit is a stand out amenity for Crown Plaza. Overall room was very nice and spacious but for a suite standard it's a shame they don't include a bath tub. Facilities The hotel offers free WIFI for two devices only, its a bit slow but acceptable for email and social media. There are chargeable options for more devices and faster speed. Catering outlets include a bar and restaurant, bar kind of food which was mixed, burger was ok but fries were uncooked since I got a take-out decided to discard them. Breakfast buffet though had a good selection of hot and cold choices. Leisure outlets include a gym with modern cardio equipment with in built TV's plus they also offer a Zen room with Yoga mats and complimentary water. There is also a snack shop, ATM and some computers at reception. There is a large car park as well but unsure if its charged or not. Staff Staff are all really friendly in areas with fast check-in and check out. Overall a decent hotel for staying close to JFK, would definitely come again if in between flights if I had no need to go to city. Only disappointing thing is the high presence of immigration police that stay at hotel & walk around looking moody. Obviously not the hotels fault.

Tune Hotel KLIA 2 (Sepang, Malaysia)

3 Case Rating
Location Tune is quite a hassle to find when in you are land after 22 hours of flying in KL main terminal. Since the Tune is located in KLIA 2 , the terminal where the low cost carriers leave from and this hotel is part of Air Asia. To get there if your coming in on a standard airline at KL terminal 1, you need to pay 5 Ringits for return ticket by train that runs every 15-20 minutes but takes only 3 minutes to get to KLIA2. Then it took me much time to figure out how to get to level 1, but once there you have a 5 minute covered walk to hotel. As your right by airport plus 7/11 is literally next door as is a cafe. To get food is no issue. If you do return the 5 minute walk to the airport , there are many places to eat. There are many places to eat, mostky fast food but all kinds & places to shop like H&M as well as including pharmacies etc. Room Room first impression can only be described as Air Asia without the beautiful cabin crew to look at. Very red, white badly painted tired looking walls. Scrapes here and there & a sense a million people have stayed in the same room before you. However value for money is good especially for Air Asia flights & other low cost airlines as your on the door stop of the terminal. To be fair it did have some degree of functionality. The large bed was adequately comfortable a bit firm but did offer a adequate simple workable bed side desk with international plug- easy to do work. Other side is a bedside table with a laptop size safe inside. A fan is available overhead as is AC digitally controlled by key card slot at door. TV Faces you but no guide There are 18 channels, local , Chinese, News like BBC, National Geographic etc- all worked well and a jazz music radio channel is also offered. There is a open hanging wardrobe with about 5 coat hangers, with a fold out luggage rack below. Decor is very plane as well as large mirror above bed and by door. The bathroom is very small- offering a open shower cubicle with Tune branded shampoo and soap only , plus some quite thin towels. Overall the room was well used and tired. I had to change rooms initially as first one stank of smoke despite non smoking and 2nd one the light bulb didn't work in bathroom, but staff did change it. In terms of value for money- for Europeans this is the IBIS version of Asia but just not as well thought out, the Tune feels like crush attempt at creating a factory of rooms with bad paint jobs and lacks of maintenance. Facilities They offer free WIFI for 2 devices only, it was at times fast and other times very slow. Next door is a cafe and there is also a 7/11 within the building for your conveniences. The lobby has much seating. I don't think they offer any other facilities since no signage or information to indicate otherwise. The lifts are also painfully slow to wait since so many people stay here. Staff Staff were kind enough to resolve issues I experienced but failed to wake me after numerous requests for a wake up call. They do this by knocking on door, but luckily i actually woke up naturally when I was suppose to- since no clock or phone is in room. Check-in/check out though was smooth. Overall if I was staying between flights and flying into the normal Terminal 1- where all scheduled airlines fly to then I wouldn't stay at Tune. Tune is for Air Asia passengers or those using Terminal 2. When it states 15 minutes from airport on hotels.com when in reality it means from Terminal 2, which the majority of overnight passengers would not be using- therefore it is quite a hassle and somewhere i wouldn't choose to stay again unless i had to use Air Asia between flights.

Narita Excel Hotel (Tokyu, Japan)

4 Case Rating
Location Hotel is located near all major hotels off the main road to Narita airport. There is a coach every 30 min - 1 hour (depending on time of day) back & forth from airport. The hotel claims to be 30 minutes walk to the town of Narita, though a shuttle bus to the town is offers but unsure of frequency. It is a little too far to walk after a long flight. Within vicinity though is a 7/11 convenience store around 10 minutes from the hotel, if like me you awoke after 10pm and are in need of food, this was handy as only food option since all catering outlets are closed after about 10:30pm. Room My room was located in annex building on the top (11th floor). It offered a great view of Narita airport runway in the distance. The room offered a small double bed which was soft and comfortable but no pillow menu. Next to bed is the typical 80's switch alarm clock but also controls of light switch. There is also a two but small person sofa and table. Facing the bed is a luggage rack, a wooden desk with mirror and large TV that offers some English channels such as fox new, BBC and CNN in addition to local channels. A DVD player is also offered. Below is a small refrigerator but small was offered but empty and a Japanese digital kettle. In corridor is an open wardrobe with about six coat hangers plus slippers & pyjamas are offered as amenities. There is also an air purifier unit and digital AC is offered but I preferred the Windows slightly open. The bathroom is standard small Japanese style but with a dated bidet and deep small bath shower combo. Large bottle amenities are offered with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel. No body lotion so bring your own if you have a long flight & tend to dry out. There is a basket though with dental, shaver, hair brush, shower cap & vanity kits offered. Plus a hair dryer. Generally the room was comfortable and more international standard than some other if the Japanese brands. Facilities The hotel is 4.5 star hotel in terms of facilities. 4.5 star because it's not in particular of a 5 star standard. Catering includes 3 outlets: a general restaurant, Japanese dining and Chinese dining. All of which are closed by 10pm. There is though a lounge bar in which is open until 1130pm. Room service is also available but a fairly small menu is offered and is only until 11pm Leisure facilities are fairly good though simple. They offer a good long indoor pool that is great for laps. There is also an outdoor pool in which is more for cooling down when the daytime is hot than for exercise. There is a gym of mostly cardio equipment but adequate equipment is offered. A tennis court was also noticed. In addition is a typical and separate male and female Japanese sauna which also offers cooling pools- quite a nice facility with chairs to relax after the hot sauna and washing amenities such as mirror tables to leave all refreshed etc. Other facilities include some chargeable foot and massage chairs plus a massage spa that offered various Hawaiian lomi lomi massage types. A nice Japanese garden is also on site, quite nice for a short walk thru. A small shop is offered and a flower shop plus a bridal banquet salon ,in addition some vending machines exist. In terms of business facilities, there are various banquet halls though more aimed towards wedding it seems than conferences plus a very small business centre that offers two windows based computers and a printer- all chargeable at 100 Yen for 10 minutes. Since no smoking is unusually not allowed outside on site premise, they offer an inside smoking room which was well ventilated but no seating. Staff Staff as always in Japan are very efficient. Check in/out was fast and as I made a request thru hotels.com - the top floor room was offered. This hotels takes special requests seriously. I did loose my iPhone cable on the flight and asked if I could borrow one with leaving my passport or credit as deposit but hotel were very reluctant though they will take phone and charge it for you. Overall this hotel appears to be an air crew hotel plus airlines use for passengers to stay following flight disturbances. This Japanese hotel has good facilities and room was spacious when comparison to equivalent Japanese though not quite the comfort of the nearby Ramada. Though saying that it is good value for catching flights at Narita. One criticism for an international airport is lack of food options when waking up late since everyone is jet lagged and sleeps at different times, room service should be 24 hours. They seem to keep the restaurant open for disrupted airline passengers but not for full paying guests.

citizenM Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam, Holland)

5 Case Rating
Location Around a 5 minutes walk from arrivals at Schipol airport. It is well signposted once outside of arrival hall 4 with covered walkways. Trains at Schipol take 10minutes to Amsterdam Central station and 30 minutes to Rotterdam. Room Room is awesome. Blown away by the innovative concept of the room. A huge bed lies at the end of the smallish room where digital blinds & black out screens are used. Sound proof windows. The room offers a mini iPad with a charging stand. Here you control everything, the large TV that faces the bed which offer many TV networks and over 30 or more pre-programmed hollywood movies. Next to the bed is a desk which is also has the bed side table that offers ability to work on computer and this is where the hotel offer two free bottles of water. There is convenient plug socket on the side of bed plus a large pull out drawer to place hand luggage or clothing. There are two circular pods that offer mood lightning in each - any colour you wish that you select from the IPad plus specific mood such as romance, movie, party, business (lights and TV do a show etc)- creates a nice ambience for whatever mood takes you.A curtain can be pulled aside from bed to the the two pods. One is a shower in which operates once doors are closed, rain shower and separate head is offered. Amenities include two large bottles of shampoo or shower gel. All works fine and water leaks into floor due to efficient drainage system. The other pod is the toilet that frosted glass for privacy if you are with someone. There is a sink inside room and a shelf with both Euro and UK plugs easy to place your bathroom products. An open wardrobe is located by door with coat hangers plus a safe below that could fit some small items. Overall the room is superb for an overnight stay between flights and beats the expensive prices of city centre. However things can go wrong if your iPad is dead. So highly recommend leaving it in the dock. Facilities The hotel operates a remote check in system via self service machines, it's very much like checking into a flight but without having to provide ID etc. You can select which side of building you want and add on extras such as breakfast or late check out. Staff are there though to help. The hotel has free very fast wifi. Able to download a 300mb file within 10 minutes. This is open non- secure so multiple devices can be used throughout the hotel. Business facilities include 4 Apple Mac computers and some meeting rooms. Catering includes a large bar and coffeeshop with food options. Self service canteen style. Breakfast is quite nice and healthy but a good selection of hot (scrambled egg, boiled egg, tomatoes) and cold (muesli, yogurts, fruit, cheese, salmon etc). There is also a shop that has really cool items everything from mini cocktail sets, 'lovers kit", phone cables note pads even colour changing umbrellas- all very boutique and interesting art. There is also lot of lounge seating which i notice people sit on computers and work from. Plus outside seating for those that smoke. Also for those needing to Iron, there is a dedicate room for ironing. Staff Staff are really friendly and chilled out, I managed to be able to check-in at 830am without a fee which was great after a flight from China. They even offered me any free drink from the bar. I had some issues in the evening , the iPad dock wasn't charging and the toilet was making a lot of noise - all were resolved and managed well with manager without even requesting offering me a free breakfast & late check out. Despite the issues I give them 5 stars because of the commitment the staff have to customer service & the fact the room is simply awesome and better than staying in crazy Amsterdam on a Saturday night. Will definitely come again.

Aerotel Airport Transit Hotel Terminal 1 (Changi Airport, Singapore)

4 Case Rating
Location Located on first floor in terminal 1 upstairs. It is near transfer area D. Quite easy to find due to good signage as its in the worlds best airport - everything and anything you need is at this airport but for longer transits this is a reasonably priced transit hotel to get some rest. Room The room was spotlessly clean, modern & functional. Wooden floor and fabric walls in light & brown colours with dim-able spot lighting creating a relaxing ambiance. Two single sized comfortable beds  were offered with a table in between containting easily assessible international plug sockets. In addition flexible spotlights are conveniently placed on each bed corner, great for reading. The room also included an arm chair, small side table & large desk with 3 pin plug socket plus a telephone. Perfect for both the business traveller that needs to get on with some work & can't sleep and those that just need rest. Directly facing the beds and above the desk is a very clear LG new flat screen TV.  Such channels  offered include  BBC, RT, BHK, CCTV, CNBC, history, HBO, Nat Geo, carton , sports & movie channels. Asian channels as well. A Luggage rack and open wardrobe is also presented next to the TV with a few coat hangers. There are no windows in my particular room, just wooden shutters.  Temperature was good as  personal digital touch screen A/C is offered. The bathroom was very new & clean with a large shower cubicle.  Overhead rain shower & separate detachable shower head that included amenities of  fixed wall unbranded bottle of combined shampoo & shower gel. However opening a drawer near the sink included a full convenient set of items such as hotel branded dental kits, comb, shower cap & vanity box. Plus two sets of slippers. The towels were thick of decent standard and easily accessible hair dryer close to the large mirror. In terms of noise, unfortunately some work was being carried out at the airport during my stay. Staff did explain this at check-in but it was very noisy in the middle of the night so bad that I could hear drilling through the walls. Despite the warning I think the hotel should of considered offering guests some ear plugs, which of little cost during this inconvenient period. Facilities WIFI is free upon registration of your passport or phone for 2 devices or more - worked fast but it is the same as the standard  free WIFI available airport code. The main highlight of the Aerotel is the swimming pool,  this is the only airport in the world to offer a swimming pool as non guest can also use  this facility at a cost of SQ$17 for 3 hours. The pool is of medium size, which is great for a dip in this humid city but maybe not suitable for laps. There is also a jacuzzi next to it but plenty of sun loungers. The deck does offer a nice view of  the airport apron and runway. This is also the only hotel catering facility is which is the pool bar offering light meals and cocktails. Other leisure facilities include a small gym, mostly cardio equipment and a library room is also for guests. Staff Check-in staff were unfortunately the weakness at this hotel. At check-in, they failed to explain the pool to me or any details only that I have 6 hours within the pre-paid agreed rate. However I decided to stay an extra hour with increased rate confirmed to me. However at check-out a different staff member tried to charge me two more hours for no reason. I found this staff member whom claims was the manager to be quite rude as I hadn't gone over my time but he simply argued that previous staff member told him to charge me for 2 hours for no apparent reason. In the end I had to argue to get this resolved but it was not pleasant lasting impression. Overall the room was comfortable of reasonable value but  was spoilt unfortunately the airport middle of the night building work, though this was explained as a warning. The hotel should consider  offering ear plugs. Customer service is also evasive.

Wingate by Wyndham Bush Intercontinental Airport (Houston, Texas)

3 Case Rating
Location The hotel is located just off the main noisy highway enroute to airport, other than a few other motel type places there is nothing in the vicinity. About 10-15minute walk gets you to a gas station where you'll find a Burger King. There is a complimentary hotel bus which you need to call to pick you up either at airport terminals or main rental car centre. It's very unpredictable as to when it arrives as its shared with another hotel and is branded as that hotel 'home wood suites'. They may say 10 minutes every time you call but in reality we waited most times up to 45 minutes. It leave the hotel though on the hour every hour. Room The large room was spacious & functional for those on a budget. The large bed was of adequate comfort but small square pillows were odd & was pleased to have my own travel pillow. Either side of bed were bedside tables & small lamps on top. Behind the table though were plug sockets but not so assessable (you have to pull put table). The room offered a wide arm chair that was comfortable enough to watch TV. This faces the bed on top of an empty set of drawers. Cable TV offered some 22 cable the typical US networks. A large wide wooden desk is offered of which a helpful power plug unit is on top of which 2 USB & 2 US plugs are on it. The was also a lamp with LAN connection and phone with a comfortable office style chair resulting in a decent work station. The room offered a cupboard that had a iron & ironing board in it & lap top size easy to use safe- plus many clothes hangers. A mini kitchen is offered next to bathroom with a medium size empty refrigerator, sink , coffee maker plus a few teas. The bathroom was of typical motel US standard - simple design bath / shower combo but with slight limescale offered on the shower head. They did offer some mini branded amenities of facial soap, shampoo & conditioner, body lotion branded as mineral fusion. Hair dryer & plenty of towels. Overall the room is definitely functional, but lacking much real ascetically pleasing comfort The decor reminded me of a retirement home, a little dull but is adequate .The main issue is the built in AC/heater it is noisy and just comes on randomly. There is though a fan above the bed. The walls are thin so you can hear all your neighbours activities. Facilities There is free wifi in which has many open routers but I initially was on 3rd floor & experienced issues. However once moving to first floor it worked fine. Catering facilities include a free breakfast of which a simple buffet of waffle making, bacon, scrambled egg plus plenty of cereals, bagels , fruit & breads are offered. Overall adequate but the polystyrene plates are a bit tacky. Food was of ok standard. For other catering options, a room service menu consists of delivery from a Chinese reataurant nearby but also Pizza Hut, Papa Johns & Dominos do deliver. Leisure facilities include a small pool, more dipping than doing a work out. A very basic small gym and a small convenience store next to reception that offers food for your microwave, cold snacks & bathroom products as well as basic medicine for colds & heartburn etc. Business facilities include one computer with a printer but it did not work the entire time I was there- at least to connect to Internet. There is also a small meeting room and also parking is free if you are a guest. The parking is also rented out to travelling passengers so can be full. Overall though basic a full set of facilities are offered. Staff Staff are really nice, helpful with any request with check-in/out being a smooth process with no issues. Overall this is a budget hotel, but it offers better than a motel, fairly comfortable for cheap budget option near to IAH airport. For less than $70 it was fine but by no means offers anything innovative or enhanced.

Japan – NRT Tokyo Narita Airport (Tokyo, Narita)

Japan – LHR London Heathrow Airport (Tokyo, Narita)

Japan – JFK New York Airport (Tokyo Narita)

Radisson Hotel Narita (Narita, Japan)

4 Case Rating
Location Hotel is located about 25 minutes to one of the international terminals at Narita. The hotel is on the outskirts of Narita but too far to walk to the town or train station. There is a small mini stop convenience store less than 10 minute walk away. The hotel does offer a complimentary & frequent possibly every 30 min bus service to airport plus a bus service to local AEON mall, Narita town train station & even JCR (chargeable) bus to central Tokyo station. Room The queen sized bedroom was a nice product compared to other places I have stayed at in Narita. The room hits the medium of being a western & Japanese hotel alike. Spacious entrance first shows an open wardrobe containing plenty of coat hangers ,iron & ironing board. The queen sized bed was of medium firmness but with soft pillows. Each side there are dim-able flexible reading lights on side of bed plus bed side tables with actual lamps. One side has the usual Japanese switches to power the AC & room lights with the other table offering a telephone & alarm clock which has an iPod dock but pre-lightning cable era. Next to this bedside table is a functional desk & this is where two US plug sockets are offered plus one full international socket which was handy. A lamp & very comfortable raise able business chair is offered making this desk very convenient and comfortable to work from for the business traveller. A small arm chair is also available of good width but rather upright. Facing the bed is a long wooden unit that has a decent size on top .There is a easy to use handy remote control and TV guide which shows 31 channels of which CNN, BBC , 2 movie, discovery and Nat Geo & sport channels are in English, which is fairly good for my experiences staying in Japan. There is also a DVD player offered below. Along the unit are more power sockets , a kettle with coffee and tea sachets plus a refrigerator and nice side lamp at one end with luggage area at other. Well thought out & organised. The bathroom is your typical compact bathroom offering a deep bath and combined shower. A decent standard of wash-let is offered but no non Japanese instructions. Rather than the usual fixed large bottle amenities offered in Japanese hotels. The Radisson offers mini bottles of Ritual branded shampoo, conditioner & body lotion plus a separate facial & normal soap bar. There is also a complimentary bottle of water in the bathroom. Toothbrush , razor & shower cap. Overall a cosy room with excellent lighting options large windows as well for natural light, functional for the business and comfortable enough for couples/ solo in between flights at Narita. Facilities The hotel offer free unsecure wifi hotel wide for multiple devices. Worked very well including via VPN. Catering facilities include a buffet restaurant with the option of A la carte- Japanese beef curry was delicious. A lounge bar with sandwiches & cakes and a sports bar which seemed to have Karaoke going on when I walked in there late evening. Also 24 hours room service. The food standard was very good. Leisure facilities include full length indoor & outdoor pools (for summer). Indoor pool is great for lengths with seperated lanes plus it is also where there is separate male & female sauna facilities plus a gym with fairly modern equipment. I noticed there is a basketball court & somewhere on site is a tennis court, volleyball court & even small golf course- according to map in room. There is also a hair salon and small convenient souvenir shop that offers some snacks in lobby. In addition there is a kids play room. Business facilities include a business centre with two computers and the hotel clearly offers many meeting rooms and banquet centre for conferences. Staff Staff were very nice. I landed very early and got to hotel around 9 am in which was told check in starts at 3pm so I waited in the lobby on sofa's expected for a long wait but in fact an hour and half later they were able to accommodate me to a clean room. This was very kind as was so tired after long flight. Staff were nice as well in catering outlets & also in the shop. Overall an excellent standard of staff service. The hotel is a great product for in between flights, the room was better than crown plaza & other hotels I have stayed at in Narita. It was reasonably priced and appears to be very much an air crew hotel which is likely why the room & facilities are so functional. I will return next time again.

Tokatoka Resort Hotel (Viti Levu, Fiji)

5 Case Rating
Location Hotel is located around 2 minute drive from Nadi airport. 10 minutes to Nadi town & 20 min to the port of Danarau- which is the main connection to the islands. Within walking distance there is a market about 15 minutes walk down the road, there is not much else other than the main airport of Fiji. Room The majority of rooms are all ground level houses with high ceilings though there is s main building. There is covered walkways to get to your room/building if on floor level. My room 225 was quite far from say reception. The room itself offered a queen sized bed which was softer than the previous hotel I stayed at in Fiji. Bedside tables each side, one with a basic digital alarm clock & the other with a telephone, above offered lamps each side but high with switches on left hand side so you have get out of bed to switch off etc. This is also where there is a ceiling fan & digital seperate AC unit- all worked fine. The room oddly offered a 3rd single bed. In terms of plugs there were some each side behind the bedside tables- Australian kind. In from of all the beds from the left - there was a desk & lamp with a large mirror and some plugs of which a US two pin was offered on one- you would need to unplug the the or desk lamp or TV for AUS plug. The TV was dated seemed small and not a flat screen with some channels having grainy pictures. I noticed a few local channels, plus Australian & Japanese NHK only. Below the TV was an empty fridge one side & the other contained a kettle to make hot drinks. Further along was a large wooden wardrobe that contained a lap top size safe, plus iron & ironing board. The bathroom is at end of room & split into 2 rooms, the toilet & a shower cubicle with sink in middle. They offered hotel branded mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Soaps as well. Shower worked fine. The room offers shutter type windows with mosquito nets in front. Overall the decor is quite bland lacking any picture or much general ambience, however it was quiet (when hurricane wasn't happening). There is also a covered porch with two chairs & ash tray for smokers. The room also offers a fire extinguisher but surprisingly no complimentary water is provided. Facilities It is hard to say as spent the night due to flight cancellation & was here during the night cyclone Winston came thru. However was impressed hotel offers back up generators and thus power remained on during the storm. Wifi is free for one hour then cost FJ$20 for 24 hours but due hurricane went down after 2 hours of service. It seemed quite slow when it did work but generally hard to judge naturally since a category 5 hurricane was affecting FIJI. Catering facilities included buffet breakfast & buffet dinner. Breakfast had hot & cold choices such as fruit, cereal & breads. Hot was pork sausages, beans, fries, scrambled egg & fried egg plus some vegetables. Dinner had fish, chicken, potatoes, vegetables some pork I think. Overall the food was edible, dinner being better but far from outstanding. It cost FJ$45 for dinner. There was also a bar. Leisure facilities observed included an interesting pool that offered a large slide for adults as well as children- it looked fun but following cyclone Winston it was out of action. There was also a play area for kids with climbing stuff & frames etc. The hotel also had a large souvenir & convenience store, which had some decent items plus a tour desk. I also noticed some washing machines & dryers for guests. Overall there was quite a bit of damage from trees on the ground after the 200mph cyclone so was hard to judge & perhaps the hotel offers more facilities. Staff Staff were ok, it was a difficult situation as stayed there the night the cyclone category 5 came thru, the staff were relaxed but not so personal like I found on the island. However the porter Mala was very kind. Overall this is the better hotel to be very close to the airport but it is not the Fiji experience. I would stay here if needed to be up very early for an flight. Again my review was when I stayed as a result of Cylone Winston, a category 5 and it was very scary but the buildings all survived though a lot of tree's didn't. However staff handled the situation well.

Crowne Plaza International Airport Hotel (Los Angeles)

4 Case Rating
Location Hotel is located within the vicinity of LAX on W. Century Blvd, there is a blue bus that regularly goes every 15 minutes between airport (all terminals) and hotel. There is nothing much to walk to in the area just large parking lots etc. Room The newly renovated executive king on the 14th floor (Quiet Zone) was a spacious room that offered a large king size bed, high and very comfortable bedding. Each side had a bed side table that offered flexible reading lights attached to the bed, plus standard lamps. Easy accessible US plugs below and an alarm clock (that also one can plug a USB socket into or use via bluetooth to use as a speaker) one side and telephone the other. The room also offered a large chair and foot rest, large desk, lamp and plugs - fairly good place to work from. The TV was on a large unit that offered full cable channels and pay per view. Within the unit was a coffee machine and also a luggage rack. One item missing is no fridge or mini bar. The bathroom was spacious and included a combo bath and shower with Temple spa amenities of soap, shampoo, body lotion, vanity kit and conditioner plus a bottle of water. Dental/shaver kits appear to be on request, actual bedroom also offers the Temple spa Aromatherapy sleeping spray, face moisturising and cream for tired legs plus ear plugs- overall very nice. Digital AC is offered and in addition a separate unit for heating. I did notice any wardrobe or safe which was odd but may of just missed this. Overall the room was comfortable with nice fitting but despite being newly renovated room 1442 did have some scrapes on the walls and could do with a paint job. The windows though double glazing there was some noise heard like hoovering on below floor, not sure what it was but it was quite annoying. However hotel do offer ear plugs. Saying that comfortable and functional for working room. Facilities Hotel offers WIFI- mine was free not sure if it generally is. Worked fast for multiple devices with pass code. Catering facilities included 3 restaurants, a sports bar with a large menu from burgers to fish etc. A coffee shop which also is a wood pizza bar- quite nice pizza but very greasy- dripped thru my take-away box before i got to room. There is also a sushi bar as well but that opens at 5pm and i was looking for lunch. Business facilities include conference facilities and meeting rooms, plus about 6 or 8 computers located on a desk by reception- which also offered a printer. Leisure facilities included a outdoor heated pool and a gym but did not get a chance to see these, the weather was not great at LAX at time of visit. There is also a salon, concierge desk, ATM, a nice souvenir and convient store within the building. Overall excellent facilities for an airport hotel. Staff Staff at check-in were nice , though check-in clerk was very attentive and tried doc hare credit card for a pre-paid booking but once explained he apologised. Check out was smooth and staff in shop and restaurant were quite friendly. Overall a decent airport hotel option, not sure of the other 5 stars but Crowne plaza does look like one of the oldest, at least in public areas but the bed and room was very comfortable with amble amenities- I would definitely say here again.

Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel (Botany Bay, Sydney)

4 Case Rating
Location Hotel is located literally 2-3 minutes walk from international arrivals, just across drop off / pick up area lanes. Behind building is car park and car hire places. Very easy to take role and walk to. Other than airport terminal there is little in area to walk to but airport terminal offers extensive restaurants, Pharmacy, shops by the departure areas plus train to CBD if you need to get to city, which takes about 15 minutes. Room Spacious room on 3rd floor offered a large & high comfortable double bed, with bed side tables, Australian plugs and facing down lamps on each side. One side had an alarm clock that offered the old style IPOD/ 4s IPHONE connection. On the right hand side of the bed is a curved chair slightly reclined with a comfortable leg rest- fairly comfortable to watch movies from the large TV that is on the wall that faces the bed. The smart TV offers hotel information guide, local information (weather, local and world news etc) and cable TV of which there was around 68 channels both radio and TV and not just Australian channels but Chinese CCTV, Euro News, France 24, KTV even Syrian but not much American choices etc. Also on the right of the bed is a decent wooden desk with lamp and comprehensive plug unit set to say input for TV options. Adequate for working though chair is not so comfortable. A portable luggage rack also exists. To the left hand side of bed is the tall wardrobes to hang clothes and also offers an ironing board, iron and easy to use laptop size safe. Next to this is a very detailed mini bar both in small fridge and many snack items- plenty of drinks and even hotel branded potato chips and sweets. A set of drawers next to mini bar reveal a kettle and some tea & coffee making etc. There is no complimentary water but it is around about same price as you would pay in the airport shops. The bathroom was quite open plan, though the toilet does have closed door. The shower is sort of open but a curtain can be drawn for privacy. It is not as such a separate room but a small wall separating bedroom from sink and shower. Amenities offered included mini tubes of 'Sanctum' branded shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Plus soap hair dryer is offered and plenty of towels. The room offered digital AC control and also lighting options were good. Decor is ok, there are some nice pictures above the bed but otherwise it is very plain and simple. Large windows though did offer some natural light but blacked out curtains can be used for day sleeping and room is very quiet despite being near airport. Facilities The hotel offers free WIFI that is not password protected and can be used hotel wide for no limit of devices. It was of good speed even with VPN on. Catering facilities include a cafe by reception, a sports bar also on reception level plus a Grill restaurant/breakfast buffet on mezzanine level - did not use any as it seemed pricey when you can walk over to airport with multiple different food types offered on departure level. There is also room service that say a burger is about AUS$27. Leisure facilities include only a gym but had quite modern equipment but not that big. There was signage in room for massages but did not use. There is also a small shop of small travel type items by reception. The hotel also has large conference facilities. Staff Staff are helpful and enthusiastic at reception and overall offered a warm welcome. Check-in and check out was fast. Overall this hotel is the best option but also the priciest to be close to SYD airport. The room was comfortable and staff are nice, I would stay here again but its depending on rate that does change alot, seen high prices before and other times ok.

China – PEK Beijing Airport

Germany – Tegal Airport (Berlin)

Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok, Thailand)

4 Case Rating
Location Located about 5 minutes walk from BKK airport- the closest hotel. They do provide a 24 hour frequent transfer buses for those with heavy luggage from arrivals area directly outside- though easy to walk thru a car park if you just have small bags. Other than airport facilities and connections to Bangkok city via Air link there is little else to see in area. It is very convenient for in between flights. Room The room is very spacious at the Novotel, more so than some other airport Novotels in the region such as TPE airport. However it lacks in the innovative fell that Novotel are consistent with. They tried a traditional more Thai style but it looks tired. However a large king size bed is offered that is fairly comfortable. Offering bed side tables ether side, with two kinds of lamps- one that can be moved to side to say read. One side offers a phone and a touch pad control unit- but quite old looking. However it is convenient because you control the lights and the AC unit. Plugs wise are against the wall. The room offers a simple side wooden desk with upright armchair with the table offering a lamp, WIFI box and telephone. There is a side table that has offers two complimentary Novotel branded water and a kettle with some teas and coffee. A TV faces the bed but did not turn it on as was very tired. Below though was a mini bar with chocolates and drinks in the large cupboard unit. There is a wardrobe on the side that has a large laptop size safe, slippers and robe. The bathroom offers a marble finish with a large window to main bedroom but with pull down blinds. There is also a shower cubicle and amenities are in house Novotel shower gel and shampoo- but no body lotion. Dental kit though is offered. The room also had large windows that faced the Thai garden court yard below and back drop of airport main entrance. Overall the room is ok for a transfer but rather dull for Novotel- felt more like an American Hampton suites type hotel. Saying that the room is soundproof and black out drapes for restful sleep close to this very busy airport. Facilities The hotel offers free WIFI secure with your name and password. There is an impressive looking lobby where majority of catering facilities are. These include the following: A restaurant called 'The Square" that offers a buffet breakfast that opens at 3am- obviously for the many air crew that stay here for the earliest flights. The buffet itself did have some nice breads and did reflect that standard one expects of Novotel with some hot and cold foods, Asian and western variety. No staff asked me for voucher or actually much presence of any staff at 430am, some tables remained dirty because of this. It felt I could easily just have walked in without being a guest because despite vouchers issued, staff are not interested. Other catering facilities include 'Kinsen' Japanese restaurant, "Le Gourmet" a barbecue restaurant, "Golden Village" a dim sum Cantonese restaurant & 'Sala Thai" a Thai Restaurant. They all vary in times other than the 24 hour buffet restaurant. There is also a Atrium Terrace bar. I only experienced the breakfast buffet. Leisure facilities include a SPA, an outdoor pool that actually is quite nice with waterfall display and traditional Thai hut with pool bar at end- good size for laps. There is also a gym of good size and some adequate equipment. There is also as mentioned, a traditional Thai Garden to sort of walk around. Staff Staff at this hotel were weak- at least the only enthusiastic staff were painters in corridors whom said good morning. The staff at reception have an over worked, tired, lack of enthusiasm robotic approach to service without the Thai smile. To be fair they are checking people in constantly from air crew to normal guests. I had a booking for two days and left after a day due to wanting to stay in city, staff seemed a bit put out why I was leaving. Overall the hotel is very convieniant to the airport and does offer a 24 hour check-in check out policy, though doubt anyone stays here for that time. However it is a good policy but when compared to hotels even in the city of a 5 star level - this 4 star Novotel is way over priced and in all honesty it is cheaper to book 2 nights at most hotels in city of the same level if not better. The air link is convenient so if you do have more than 20 hours there is no real need to be here unless you have lots of bags etc.

Kazakhstan – Almaty International Airport

USA – Denver International Airport (Denver, CO)

Royal Park Hotel The Haneda (Tokyo)

4 Case Rating
Location Hotel is located within the international Terminal near the check-in island L and just around the corner- fairly easy to find as signage is offered and HND airport information staff very helpful. As your in the airport very accessible to any parts of Tokyo via JR line and buses plus the rest of the world etc. Room The room on the 7th floor was rather small even for Japanese standards, for the price paid it seems a bit cramped even or me as a big westerner though just about ok for single traveller. The room offers a single bed but quite spacious but with only one pillow, though is comfortable. One side of bed is a mini side table built into unit that offers the touch light controls and bed side dimmer function. There is also an alarm clock, LAN slot and some 'jimbo' plug sockets (likely for some local phones but no USB unfortunately). Next to this is a small old style case- not sure you can sit on as it opens and is next to coffee table. There is portable pull out luggage rack. To the side of bed is a very small closest to hang some items, plus shoe horn and brush. Also hotel branded slippers are offered and a sleeping outfit. Facing the bed is a unit with TV on top- that offers 12 channels, many Japanese but none include BBC world news, CCTV and Korean. There is also some VOD at 1000Yen. Below is a tiny refrigerator that offers one complimentary bottle of water. Plus an easy to use SAFE, laptop size and kettle with coffee and tea sachets. A telephone is offered next to TV and a air machine. The room has a digital AC controls which worked well. The bathroom adjoins the bed room with see through windows though pull down blinds can be used for privacy. A combo deep bath and shower head is offered, plus a digital washlet. Amenities includes large dispenser bottles of body soap, shampoo and conditioner by Mikimoto. There is also a hair dryer and single amenities of toothbrush, shaver kit, brush and vanity kit plus hair dryer and plenty of towels. Overall a compact room but functional for sleeping but not for working on computer upright as no desk offered. There is also some views of the airport for those plane minded spotters. Facilities The hotels offers free fast WIFI that is secure and can be used for multiple devices. There is a restaurant near lobby plus a smoking room and art gallery. There is also a massage service as mentioned in guide. Staff Staff are pleasant polite but regimented with struct guidelines that check-in is only allowed at 3pm with check out at 11am. I left at midnight so was allowed to check-in 30 minutes early, but with persuasion- she initially tried to charge me for 230pm check-in which seemed a bit over the top. They also charge a 100 yen tax despite a pre-pay booking as some form of city tax. Overall a perfect location for between flights as no need to leave airport, HND has lots of nice facilities and shops, restaurants etc on 4th floor (one level above) so a nice spot without having to wait for a shuttle service meaning can maximise sleep as check-in area is on same level as lobby. However slightly over priced for what you get, when say compared to Hotel mystays or Excel- which both offered a working desk at around the same rate or less. However it was 3 days prior to christmas so perhaps prices were unusually high. However as mentioned very convenient for international departures in between flights and comfortable room. Would stay here again.

Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino (Cebu, Philippines)

4 Case Rating
Location 5 min if that to walk to Cebu airport- directly opposite. To ferry port it takes about 45 minutes at a cost of just under 300peso by airport Taxi. Room Executive room on top floor seemed more of standard hotel room than anything special though was cosy with wooden furnishing, carpet and marble floor as decor. Room offered a king size bed with bedside table on one side that included a phone but no clock which is odd for an airport hotel in an executive room. The bed faces a large TV with digital channels from around the world set in genres of news (includes Bloomberg, ANC, BBC) movies (HBO, Cinemax) lifestyle (food, travel, e! Fashion TV's amongst many others) sports, kids, educational full cable with also German, Australian, French, Japanese, Korean & Chinese networks). The room also includes a dressing table/desk though has stool so not that suitably comfortable to work from a computer though US plugs are nearby. There is also a wooden arm chair, mini bar of Asian snacks & drink items. Kettle & some teas. Large wardrobe contains robe & laptop size safe. There is also a large fabric covered luggage rack. The bathroom was spacious nicely finished in marble that included a shower bath combo & full hotel branded amenities. The room offers digital AC and some plug outlets near to the bed. Overall comfortable room that has some degree of functionality. Facilities The hotel offers free wifi, unsecure unlimited devices & worked fast. Leisure facilities include a gym, though did not really see it but next to it is a nice square pool for doing laps plus a circular pool for kids. Other facilities include a casino next door, shopping arcade with tour operators, money changer, various shops for clothes & souvenirs. Plus a medical clinic, car park, car hire desk. There is also a spa. Catering includes a Korean restaurant, plus a KTV restaurant & bar, a lobby bar & buffet restaurant. There is also an executive lounge but was closed when I arrived. I used no facilities due to arriving late needing rest & leaving early. Staff Only staff I encountered were reception staff whom seemed pleasant. As I requested a double bed, have issues falling out of single beds, they upgraded me to executive floor. Smooth check in /check out overall though no explanation of facilities or WIFI details. Overall though I got upgraded was reasonably priced for the need to be close to airport for early departure.
