Hotel Muscat Holiday (Muscat, Oman)

3 Case Rating

20 minutes by taxi to the airport, around 25 minutes to the famous Muttrah Souk, 30 minutes to the Palace area and around 5-10 minutes to the Grand Mosque. In the immediate vicinity is the Oman club (football) with some local Omani restaurants and petrol station stores 5 minutes away including McDonalds. Within 10-15 minutes walk is the Muscat Grand mall and Lulu hypermarket which sells everything. The nearest beach is near the Chedi Hotel and this is around 10 minutes drive although one could walk there in 30 (i was told) if there is a way of crossing the major highway. The best beaches however such as Shangra la and Al Bustan is around 40-45 minute drive away.

The room was quite dated with older decor but had a comfortable bed with decent air conditioning. There was a large TV that offered various satellite channels. Bathroom just provided a bath/shower with non branded basic amenities. Also a fridge with two bottled waters provided. There was a desk and chair with a decent supply of plugs. All in all older furniture and definitely not modern but still was comfortable. Lacking in modern standards.

There is a restaurant and two bars from what I saw. The bars do serve alcohol in which I know only select hotels do. One of the bars is more British orientated whilst the other offers some pool tables. Used the buffet style restaurant which offered adequate food options of both international and local – its was displayed quite basic and so was the food but tasted ok and fresh. There is a large pool and gym as well. The pool was large square pool and was naturally hot (was there in july with 42+ C) so didn’t stay in there that long but there is a shaded area to swim in and where beds are laid which is helpful when one doesn’t have any sun tan lotion. I popped into the gym briefly to have a look was ok but like the hotel was very dated. There is also a night club on the side of the building in which they charge to enter- I popped in for a look and it was quite amusing with Agirls dancing on like a central area, strip bar style but fully clothed and off course not dancing in a sexual manner with seats all around for customers to watch – very odd atmosphere.

Staff were generally very nice and helpful. Check-in though was not that smooth and fast and took a while to sort out with staff answering the phone mid way twice, check-out was much faster. There was little dialogue overall from restaurant staff but the hotel uses many taxis outside in which are very friendly and helpful drivers.
For a couple of nights it is fine if one needs to be near the city and airport, the pool is ok but the local beach is not that great. If I came for holiday would stay by Al Bustan area where the beaches are incredible but the hotel prices are 3 times more.

The Verdict Is…

Simple but very dated hotel for Muscat, nothing fancy but has everything you need and walking distance to mall.
