Days Hotel Beijing New Exhibition Centre (Beijing, China)

The hotel is located around 10 minute drive from Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital airport in a shared office block. By Taxi don’t expect to pay more than 20RMB although there is a free shuttle bus (which you have to call to come) but went for immediate taxi as November was too cold to wait outside for bus to arrive. The exhibition centre is close by and hotel next to a main highway, there isn’t much to walk to in area other than the odd restaurant. However it is perfect if you need to be close to the airport and don’t wish to pay high prices.

I stayed here twice in a week as I was flying in and out. The first stay I booked cheapest option on Agoda (£45 not included breakfast). The room they gave me was small but adequate (1 double bed), however the noise from aircraft is quite full on, the room actually shakes as the planes are less than 100 metres from the window (on 4th floor). I then went to have a shower and there was no hot water. I went to reception and requested a room other side of building that had hot water as I really needed a decent sleep as i had to fly other side of the world the next day, they agreed to change room to better position but the room they gave me was even worse, facing same side (just two doors down) and smelly smoking room (specifically requested non smoking), so after my 18 hr flight I was a bit moody when i went back down the 2nd time to reception as they didn’t understand what I meant and was told the room I paid for was “efficient” type in which they only had four. I didn’t understand so went thru to manager. Anyway the manager upgraded to 2nd floor which was larger room and faced inside of building, so much quieter. This was the same room i got on my 2nd stay (2days later) (@£67-cheapest option on Agoda). The room has two double beds and is spacious with a small wooden desk and and a small couch, there is a reasonable size wardrobe and some large mirrors. The TV is 42 inch but very cheap as clarity is poor, there is around 30 channels but 3 are english (CNN, HBO and ESPN-all very bad clarity or picture). The bathroom is pretty good, there is a large rain shower and additional separate shower head. When hot water flows it works well. Amenities are branded as day-inn and fairly simple but don’t smell to great. The room decor is quite bland but comfortable. The room appears fairly clean but dust is present on corners and carpet edges. The bed is firm but adequately comfortable. Lighting options and plugs are plentiful and work well, the AC also is fairly quiet and controls are easy. Overall you will get a decent sleep for a overnight stopover if you need the airport or exhibition centre as long as you are not on 4th floor.

The hotel has 1 restaurant downstairs, again simple and plain. I didn’t try breakfast (costs 58RMB) but had room service twice. Would not recommend the pizza, thinking this was a safe bet as I ve had food poisoning in China 4 times (at other 5 star hotels), however the pizza comes with a cold base and cheese is only warmed on top but they did try and resolve it when I sent it back. 2nd night had sandwich and chips and was good.
There is also a gym or recreational centre as they call it and it contains 4 pieces of equipment, treadmill, cross trainer, and 2 bikes. There is also some computers in this area.
Other facilities include free unsecure WIFI in the rooms but it is frustratingly slow at times.

Staff were relatively welcoming but not attentive, as my experiences with the room change request proved and on checking out first time got charged higher amount for room service, although staff apologised and resolved. Staff do seem helpful overall though and room service did make effort to resolve the “pizza” issue.

Overall the hotel is reasonable priced for airport hotel but it is an just adequate standard of hotel in a non interesting location, however it is perfect to be near to airport. The free shuttle service is every hour when leaving hotel. If you are a light sleeper and need sleep then i recommend paying more and staying on 2nd floor facing inside of building where aircraft noise is hugely reduced.

The Verdict Is…

Dependant on where you are the noise from aircrafts is heard and water was not hot, pizza for room service came cold but staff do try their best to resolve.
